Supporting At-Risk Children and Youth in Majdal Shams

In the wake of the recent rocket attack that killed 12 children in Majdal Shams, Israel, Federation-funded programs are helping the youngest generation. Through Ashalim, a program that has worked for years with at-risk children and youth in Israel, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s overseas partner the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has launched a tailor-made training initiative for the local early childhood center. The main goal is to promote resilience and provide a space where young children can express themselves and process their emotions. To that end, Ashalim is offering Arabic language materials to help Druze children and families cope with the stress and trauma of the attack and the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. The need there is great, with 480 children ages 3 and under and another 500 children between the ages of 3 and 6. Federation’s longstanding relationships with JDC and Ashalim through our Annual Campaign allowed for an immediate response to Hezbollah's latest act of war.
