In her new series, Linda Stein highlights a dozen female heroes of the Holocaust. Although many failed to be allies to the Jews and to the other eleven million individuals who perished during the Holocaust, there were heroes and brave individuals who were able stand up to violence and oppression. Stein uses the medium of tapestry to communicate who these 12 women were and what they did. Her project uniquely focuses specifically on women heroes. Stein feels that it is important to honor positive female role models and powerful women, who are traditionally neglected in heroic narratives. Her use of the tapestry is a distinctive way to highlight these women, as she makes use of both text and pictures to tell their stories. Gallery Nights: Open for Book Festival and many theater events. Also showing: Two Holocaust remembrance books by Tatiana Kellner, generously donated by Gail and Stuart Appelrouth. View an artistic rendering of remarkable recorded reminiscences by the daughter of two Holocaust survivors.

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami to Collaborate with Israel’s Beit Hatfutsot—The Museum of the Jewish People together with Israeli Ministry of Education and Ministry for Social Equality
2015-10-18, 11.00 am to 1.00 pm
October 18 2015, will mark the launch of a unique project collaborated between the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami and – The Museum of the Jewish People known in Israel as Beit Hatfutsot. The project is a combination of two unique programs initiated by the museum with the its International school next to Tel Aviv university G2G: Generation to Generation is based on the successful Israeli initiative from Beit Hatfutsot–. Jewish students are paired with Jewish seniors for mutual learning and dual benefit. The senior broadens their Internet and computer skills while young students learn the value of the personal and collective narrative. Together they enrich their Jewish identity, history, collective memory and technical skill. G2G has been instituted at over 400 schools throughout Israel, reaching more than 10,000 participants annually. It addresses intergenerational relations and tolerance, ageism in the community, and Jewish peoplehood. The students and seniors meet regularly in a school or community setting, where the students help the seniors broaden their Internet and computer skills, while the seniors introduce the students to their life stories – their background, values and heritage. Each student-senior pair together documents a chapter in the fascinating story of the Jewish people, which is then posted online as part of the Beit Hatfutsot - The Museum of the Jewish People's collection of the greater ongoing story of the Jewish people. My Family Story is a fun-filled, meaningful, personal, global and multigenerational Jewish heritage journey to the past, where the exploration of one’s Jewish family story, genealogy, heirlooms and traditions culminates in an artistic installation. My Family Story goes beyond the typical family tree. It connects the younger generation, from 5th-8th grade to their personal stories, their family stories, and the broader story of the Jewish people. This year, in 2015 about 20,000 students, from 25 countries, representing 170 global Jewish institutions, explored their families’ stories and genealogy through this program. The Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami took on itself to recruit educators, schools and societies in Greater Miami to join this project. Members of the society are engaged today helping creating events in school for the G2G program and seeking for individuals who are prepared to tell their stories to the younger generation or have it recorded for Beit the museum archive. October 18 launch will be held at the Jewish Federation at 11.00 am together with Ms. Shula Bahat- Beit Hatfutsot CEO in United Stated and will include a live webinar from Tel Aviv with the officers in charge. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org

Geralyn Lucas author of Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy dares all women who have had a stumble in life to harness their fighting spirit and stand back up with courage and optimism. One mastectomy, two C-sections, three pants sizes, and lots of red lipstick later, Geralyn Lucas is dealing with the same issues as other women her age. Her miracle babies have grown into a typical tween with a fierce eye-roll for her mom’s failings and a tornado of a little boy who won’t play by his preschool’s rules. Her storybook romance with her husband has spiraled into couples therapy and her perfect-if-demanding corporate job as a TV producer has abandoned her for L.A. When she looks in the mirror at her hard-won wrinkles, all she wants is . . . Botox. Celebrating her sweet sixteen cancerversary she’s thankful for her second chance and ready to be daring—but can she survive life’s new ups and downs with the same courage she’s always had? With an infectiously hilarious voice and a true sense of empowerment, Geralyn harnesses her fighting spirit to live life loudly and lustily, and to grab on to all the moments that might never have happened. Knowing she can only pedal forward, she mines every day for boldness, joy, and gratitude, and eventually falls in love with life again. Then Came Life is not just for cancer survivors; it’s for life survivors—a call to rediscover the resilience and optimism it takes to reinvent yourself at any age.

Reigning at the top of the "New York Times" bestselling list for most of 2015 is "The Nightingale," Kristin Hannah’s heartbreakingly beautiful novel. With courage, grace and powerful insight, the author celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. The Nightingale captures the epic panorama of WWII and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women’s war. The story follows two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France. An art exhibit "Holocaust Heroes: Fierce Females" is on exhibit in the Futernick Family Art Gallery.

Naomi Ragen is an iconoclast, a fiercely outspoken Orthodox woman who advocates for gender equality. She is the author of nine international bestsellers and has become one of the Jewish world’s most controversial novelists and political commentators. Her latest work "The Devil in Jerusalem" is an eye-opening glimpse into the global kabbalah phenomenon, and the dangerous predators lurking around the watering holes of those who come seeking enlightenment and spirituality. Inspired by true events, the chilling tale begins with two brothers who are admitted to Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital with horrific injuries while their mother, a young American, devoutly recites Psalms at the bedside and refuses to answer any questions.
