A Guide to Jewish Burial and Mourning
A question and answer guide for families looking to understand the Jewish traditions of burial and how they can help bring comfort and support.

Seasons of Our Grief
Four pamphlets addressing the loss of a loved one. These booklets have been designed to offer insights and readings during four ritual periods of Jewish mourning. We encourage you or a loved one to use these materials over the course of the first year of loss.

Winter
(First Month) After the death through the initial seven days of intense mourning (Shiva).

Spring
(Third Month) From the end of the Shiva period through the thirty days of ritual mourning, Shloshim.

Summer
From the end of Shloshim until the end of the mourning period of eleven months marked by the Unveiling at the graveside.

Fall
From the ending of the official mourning period and throughout the course of the following the Jewish mourning year and the course of a lifetime. (Yahrzeit/private memorial of the death and Yizkor/collective congregational memorial services).

Healing Reflections
"Reflection for Brokenness" - A poem by Rabbi Fred Klein
"Meditation for Lighting a Yahrzeit Candle" - A litany to be used before one lights a Yahrzeit candle
