Helping Vulnerable Communities Face Trauma of Rocket Attacks

As rockets continue to rain down throughout Israel, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Federation’s longstanding overseas partner, is ensuring the most critical needs of vulnerable Israelis are being met. The shock and terror of recent events create further hardships and far-reaching consequences for populations that are already at-risk including children, the elderly — many of whom are Holocaust Survivors — and people with disabilities.

JDC is working with government partners, local municipalities and key, on-the-ground human service organizations to address the rapidly evolving situation and respond to emerging needs. Already, the organization is:

  • Activating the virtual Center for Independent Living and increasing its content to help thousands of people with disabilities stay connected and get the assistance they need during rocket attacks and the aftermath
  • Deploying state-of-the-art technologies to monitor the physical and emotional wellbeing and provide virtual support to thousands of Holocaust Survivors and other older adults — especially significant in the Gaza border region
  • Providing social and material support to the poorest and most at-risk children and families unable to work due to school closures and travel safety concerns
Our ongoing, core support for JDC and our additional overseas partners is made possible by the generosity of donors who support the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign. Our relationships, friendships and funding commitments through the Jewish Federation system enable us to begin this life-saving work immediately.
