Improving Medical Care in Israel’s Periphery

Nearly three years after October 7, access to medical care remains challenging in parts of Israel. Federation is helping recruit, educate and retain physicians in communities along the country’s borders. Dr. Roman Sonkin, an internal medicine physician in Be’er Sheva, acknowledges that it’s frustrating to see patients wait for medical tests and treatments that are provided quickly in central Israel. Supported by Federation’s Annual Campaign, the HealthVenture Kochavim program provides promising medical professionals in Israel’s north and south with seminars, tools and training to prepare them for leadership roles. The initiative helps ensure that people who have endured so much in recent years receive the timely medical care they need and deserve.
