News From the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

Building upon a meaningful Main Event that brought together more than 1,150 members of our community to stand up against the epidemic of anti-Semitism, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Jewish Community Relations Council is convening two important programs to address this growing threat.

Calling all teen leaders: deadline extended to Sunday, February 16 for the Stephen Muss Impact Fellowship.

Monday’s Main Event was a moving and meaningful evening. More than 1,150 people, including members of Miami’s interfaith community, came together on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau to proudly to stand against the epidemic of hate.

A delegation of Jewish clergy from Miami, joined by mothers who have lost children to gun violence, recently traveled to Tallahassee to lobby Senator Jeff Brandes and other government leaders for reasonable gun safety laws.

February is Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion Month (JDAIM). This worldwide effort advocates for inclusion of people with disabilities and mental health conditions to be active participants in Jewish life.

There is still time to apply for summer 2020 need-based scholarships to Jewish overnight camps. Recognizing that Jewish overnight camp plays an important role in strengthening Jewish identity, Federation is committed to help make these experiences more affordable.

Monday is The Main Event, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s largest community gathering of the year. This is your last chance to register and join more than 1,100 of your community members as we stand together on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau for a moving program that will celebrate the strength of the Jewish people.

More than 170 Jewish teens from throughout Miami-Dade participated in J-Serve 2020, a day of service and learning on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, hosted by Federation Jewish Volunteer Center and co-sponsored by Federation Jewish Community Relations Council, Repair the World Miami, BBYO and NAACP.

The deadline is approaching for summer 2020 need-based Jewish overnight summer camp scholarship applications.

Holocaust Education Week begins Sunday, January 26. This community-wide program of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, a Committee of Federation, will examine the Holocaust from cultural, academic and personal perspectives through films, lectures and discussions.

Federation has established an emergency relief fund as part of a national Jewish response to help those affected by the earthquakes in Puerto Rico that displaced more than 2,000 people and left thousands without electricity and basic supplies.

Calling all movie lovers! The 23rd annual Miami Jewish Film Festival (MJFF), one of the largest Jewish film festivals in the world, will take place from January 9-23.

Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) will join forces in February for two timely programs to explore the growing threat of anti-Semitism.

As we confront a resurgence in anti-Semitism in an unprecedented polarized environment, we must remain united and unyielding in our efforts to fight this scourge on all fronts.
