Greater Miami Jewish Federation
CARING FOR THE VULNERABLE
Job loss, major illness, family issues, natural disaster, terrorist attack... When the unthinkable happens to a member of our Jewish community, help is close at hand.Through support from people like you, a safety net of services is in place at home and across the globe every day, always ready and able to
respond to Jewish needs.
Today, 1 in 8 Jewish people in Miami continues to depend on the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and our local partners for some form of financial
assistance – including nutritious kosher food, emergency financial aid, crisis and employment counseling, educational and camp scholarships, and much more. At the same time, Federation's overseas partners are providing critical help and training to hundreds of thousands of at-risk and vulnerable people in Israel and communities word-wide.
- More than 3,000 private food-shopping trips to Miami’s JCS Kosher Food Bank, run by
Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS)
- Emergency financial assistance and trauma counseling to hundreds of Israelis affected
by terrorist rocket attacks. We were able to respond the day after
rockets started falling because our partners were there the day before,
providing social services year-round to vulnerable Israelis.
- Medication, food, winter supplies and ongoing care for 150,000 elderly Jews in the former Soviet Union through the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC)
“The kids are happiest the day I use my food card
and bring home bags of food. It’s the most we
have to eat all month.”
