About 40 Days
In this time of social distancing, when many of us will be unable to gather in person for the High Holy Days, the Greater Miami Jewish community is creating an enriching holiday season filled with a wide range of virtual learning and growing opportunities. Although we may be physically distant, we can still derive meaning and create deep, powerful connections with one another.
Our tradition urges us to engage in the hard work of introspection, reflection, and growth a full month before the holidays begin in order to be fully prepared and present. From the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul, through Rosh Hashanah, and ending 10 days later at Yom Kippur, our Miami Jewish community will embark on a virtual journey of preparation together so that we may bolster our efforts of teshuva (repentance/spiritual growth), tefillah (prayer), and tzedakah (social justice).
In the coming 40 days, we will explore our liturgy, music, Torah study, traditional foods, Mussar and symbols of the High Holy Days. These classes and workshops will allow community members to deepen their connection to our sacred rituals and tradition in preparation for the holidays by learning from the diversity and richness of our community.
