NCJW Miami Mother's Day Event Celebrating Immigrants
Posted by Amy Bloom on 03/27/2018 @ 04:19 PM
NCJW Miami's Mother's Day Luncheon celebrating immigrants will take place on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Temple Israel, and will begin at 11 a.m.
This is an event for mothers and daughters, aunts and nieces, grandmothers and great grandmothers.
With the school year being almost over at the time of our event, we thought that daughters in school might be able to miss a day for this important and special occasion.
Host committee members are asked to bring 4-5 people to the event. Tickets are $54 for members, and $72 for non-members.*
*A NCJW Annual Membership is currently $40, and non-members may contribute an additional $22 to become a member when they purchase their ticket.
Following is some additional information:
We are beyond thrilled to honor Robin Straus for her many years of time and devotion to NCJW Miami and our community, with The Myra Farr Volunteer Service Award.
This important and meaningful event will be a celebration of immigrants. Our guest speaker is Ruth Behar, and our lunch will be prepared with love by the Syrian women refugees of Zaytouna.
Ruth Behar is a Jewish Cuban immigrant, who won The 2018 Pura Belpré Award for her book, "Lucky Broken Girl".
In "Lucky Broken Girl", Behar draws from her childhood experience to tell a story that celebrates Latinx experience while affirming the resilience of children facing both universal and specific challenges.
Zaytouna was founded on a single gesture of gratitude. It is a conscious driven enterprise whose mission is to help women resettle in South Florida by creating permanent gainful employment by producing delicious packaged foods from the Middle East. They simply believe that food can bridge the cultural divides that separate us.
