Rockets Rain Down in Israel from Gaza

Since May 10, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad has launched nearly 1,000 rockets from Gaza into Israeli civilian communities, the majority of which were directed at populated cities in the country’s south, including the cities of Ashkelon, Ashdod and Sderot. Millions of Israelis have been forced to run to shelters as sirens sounded repeatedly in dozens of locations as far north as Tel Aviv. At this time, one Israeli death has been reported in Rehovot. Many others have sustained injuries and even more are dealing with shock and trauma as a result. While the Israel Defense Forces are responding via Operation Shield and Arrow, our overseas partner, The Jewish Agency for Israel, is meeting the needs of impacted civilians through its Fund for Victims of Terror. The organization is also offering respite services for residents in communities closest to the violence, as well as recently arrived olim (immigrants). Shelters and safe rooms in absorption centers and Amigour housing facilities have been opened, and staff is working around the clock to help everyone get to safety as needed. Our hearts and minds are with the people of Israel and we will to continue to keep you informed about the work of our overseas agencies.
