Expectant Israeli Mothers Receive Prenatal Classes and Support

Expectant mothers in Israel are facing an unprecedented level of stress and anxiety since the terrorist attacks of October 7. Many have been internally displaced — pulled from their daily routines and their comfort zones, far away from family and their support system — while others have lost their partners in the ongoing war, either called to reserve duty or killed in battle. There's been a notable increase in the number of women experiencing postpartum depression. To alleviate this stress and foster a sense of community, Federation funds have helped create Mommies and Babies. These sessions, which also reach the partners of reservists, provide essential guidance and emotional support, offering a safe space for mothers-to-be to connect, share experiences and prepare for childbirth together. Hadar Elmakayes, an evacuee from Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel who participates in the program, says, “Each one of us shares what we are going through, and it unites us and lifts our spirits.” Click here to watch a short video about the program.
