New Olim Receive Essential Services Following October 7 Attacks

Imagine leaving the only home you’ve ever known to make aliyah to Israel and arrive shortly before the deadly Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7. Ethiopian olim (immigrants) like Simachew Beyene and his family have relied on support from the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) Israel Emergency Fund and our longtime overseas partner The Jewish Agency for Israel for a lifeline of critical services since the Israel-Hamas War began. From relocation to hotels away from incoming missiles and essentials like clothing, nutritious meals and psychological counseling to schooling and respite activities for children, Beyene shares the profound impact of this assistance. “The service we have is beyond amazing … they are always asking what else can we do for you. There is war here, but we are still being fed and getting everything we need.” Click here to watch a short video of Beyene and his family.
