Rescued Hostage Andrey Kozlov Meets With Doron Almog, Jewish Agency Chairman

Recently, Andrey Kozlov, a participant in the Federation-funded Masa Israel Journey program who was rescued on June 8 after eight months of captivity by Hamas, met with Maj. Gen. (Res.) Doron Almog, Chairman of The Jewish Agency for Israel.

A longtime Federation partner, The Jewish Agency operates Masa Israel Journey and has played a critical role in assisting Israelis impacted by the war. Its Fund for Victims of Terror (FVOT), a first responder for victims and their families, distributes immediate financial aid for short- and long-term needs and post-trauma care. Since October 7, more than 8,000 grants have been distributed to victims of the war and families of those killed, wounded or kidnapped.

Kozlov is a Russian citizen who was participating in Masa Israel Journey and was at the Tribe of Nova Music Festival when he was abducted. He and his family are receiving three years of financial assistance from the FVOT, including help with emotional support, aid in navigating various services and more.

A recipient of yearly funding from the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, Masa Israel Journey is an immersive experience for Jewish adults ages 16-40 with a mission to help shape the future of the global Jewish community. Masa Fellows discover Israel and their Jewish identity through career development programs and leadership training.

Said Kozlov’s mother Yevgenia, “When I asked Andrey about his plans for the future, he simply said that Israel will always be an inseparable part of him. He wants to continue living here, even with the fear. Just like a year and a half ago, when he decided to come to Israel through the Masa Israel Journey program, he loves Israel today even more.”

Almog shared that Kozlov was attentive and filled with gratitude when the two of them met, although Kozlov is still struggling to reacclimate to the comfort and security of Israel. “Israel is your home,” Almog told him, “and we will always be here for you,” adding, “Andrey has been given the gift of life once again. We pray for a brave and noble act that will bring all the hostages home.”
