In Bomb Shelters and Absorption Centers, New Olim Celebrate Passover

Despite the ongoing war, new olim (immigrants) continue to arrive in Israel, turning a moment of conflict into one of purpose and belonging. Since the start of the war approximately six weeks ago, roughly 200 individuals have made aliyah, including 40 from North America. As always, Federation’s partners on the ground help them acclimate, providing housing, language and job assistance. This past week, that thoughtful assistance included holiday preparations to celebrate their first Passover as citizens — wherever that may find them — from absorption centers to bomb shelters. Even the youngest olim were included, donning chef’s hats and making matzah. As Jews around the world recited, “next year in Jerusalem,” at their Seders, these individuals are making those hopes and prayers a reality.
