Training Ethiopian-Israelis to Provide Trauma Support

In answer to the unprecedented need for extensive and specialized trauma counseling in Israel due to the war, Federation is funding an initiative of partner agency Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC) to train Ethiopian-Israeli therapists in psychosocial care. ITC, a leader in Israel’s trauma treatment, works to strengthen and empower individuals and communities to better cope with crises and build sustainable resilience. Through the six-month training program, Ethiopian social workers, psychologists and therapists will develop the skills, tools and knowledge to provide short- and long-term psychosocial trauma care to the greater Israeli-Ethiopian community, including thousands of Ethiopian olim (new immigrants) who were evacuated from homes and absorption centers in the Gaza Envelope and may be suffering the psychological impact of sheltering from missiles or fleeing the battle zone. The newly trained will enhance the capabilities of the ITC’s partner hotline experts by providing services in Amharic. By ensuring expanded trauma services to the Ethiopian-Israeli community at this critical time, program graduates can help bring about a healthier future for its members. The Israel Trauma Coalition receives support from the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign. Click here to make a donation.
