Get Involved

Are you looking for a unique volunteer opportunity that will leave a lasting and meaningful impact on people in need? Through Mishkan Miami’s Refuat Ha-Nefesh (Jewish healing) Fellows Program, you’ll learn how to bring comfort, solace and joy to people experiencing a variety of personal difficulties.

You’ll explore the Jewish philosophy of visiting the ill; the skills of spiritual and emotional guidance; issues and concerns facing the elderly; Jewish perspectives on death; Jewish healing rituals; how to comfort mourners; how to handle dementia and depression in seniors with compassion; and Jewish medical ethics, among other practical skills.

You’ll be guided by rabbis, social workers and gerontologists who will teach you how to react and respond appropriately. Upon completion, you’ll be ready for one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

Read what some of our participants have said:

“My challenge is to bring some Jewish spiritual feeling into my visits. I feel blessed with the opportunity to spend time with my new elderly friends and allow their memories to become my memories and share in the wisdom and warmth of their lives.”

“You go out to visit someone new and you find a new part of yourself.”

“You will encounter a new part of your future as you listen to the hopes and fears of those fighting health battles.”

“This is truly an opportunity to give as well as receive.”

The Refuat Ha-Nefesh (Jewish healing) Fellows Program begins in the early fall, and an application and interview are required prior to training. For more information, contact us at [email protected] or call 786.866.8621.
