Israel’s Bereaved Families Transform Grief Into Social Good

Through the new initiative Shikma, Federation is helping bereaved families of Israel’s fallen transform grief into good works that honor their loved ones and provide innovative solutions to Israel’s social challenges. With training and mentorships around entrepreneurship, Shikma helps participants create and fund a social enterprise that commemorates their late family members. The first cohort included 18 projects that spanned a wide breadth of services. NoRo’s Vision provides personal empowerment for girls and women at risk in the name of Norel Mansouri, z”l, and Roya Mansouri, z”l, murdered together at the Tribe of Nova Music Festival. To memorialize her son, Sgt. Regev Amar, z”l, who fell in battle at Kibbutz Kissufim, Gilanit Rif-Amar founded a leadership academy to prepare youth for military service. “Regev was a child of values,” said Rif-Amar, adding, “If we can instill those values in the next generation, we will keep his spirit alive.”
