Rebuilding Communal Bomb Shelters in the North of Israel

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is helping prepare communities in northern Israel for an uncertain future as tension rises along the border. Neighborhoods in the northern periphery are bombarded by Hezbollah almost daily and the threat of a significant escalation remains constant. Recognizing this urgent need, Federation is supporting two organizations active in readying the north and its residents for the possibility of a major conflict. Osim Shechuna, an NGO that empowers youth, builds communities and develops local leadership within low-income neighborhoods, has formed a network of volunteers to rapidly update thousands of neglected communal bomb shelters. Many of them had fallen into disrepair, lacking proper upkeep and supplies. Federation funding also helped Yeadim LaTzafon, which works with high-risk populations in the area, construct more than 100 public bomb shelters in Hatzor Ha'Glilit, complete with necessary equipment.
