Federation’s Hebrew Free Loan Association Helps Break the Cycle of High-Interest Debt

Federation’s Hebrew Free Loan Association (HFLA) is launching a new initiative to help Jewish individuals and families burdened by high-interest debt. Through interest-free loans of up to $18,000, the new Phoenix Debt Relief Fund offers a compassionate and practical path to financial stability for Jewish Miami-Dade County residents. In partnership with Branches, a Florida nonprofit specializing in financial coaching, participants receive both immediate relief and personalized tools to rebuild longterm financial health. One of the anonymous donors who provided the initial loan capital shared: “High-interest debt can feel like a kind of prison ... As a Jewish community, we have a responsibility to help people find their way out, with both resources and education.” Their vision and generosity are expanding HFLA’s reach.
