Jewish Community Members Meet With State Leaders in Tallahassee

Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council, in partnership with the Consul General of Israel in Miami and the Broward, South Palm Beach and Palm Beach federations, hosted Jewish Community Advocacy Day/Israel Day at the Capitol in Tallahassee on March 25-26. In total, 175 Jewish community members representing a coalition of 35 Jewish organizations — including seven of Florida’s Jewish federations and six Hillels — met with and heard from nearly 60 elected officials, public servants and subject-matter experts over two days. Holocaust Survivor, Jewish Miami hero and Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach Founder David Schaecter received two prestigious awards: the Governor’s Medal of Freedom, presented by Gov. Ron DeSantis (pictured here), and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Legislative Jewish Caucus, presented by Caucus Chair Rep. Mike Gottlieb. Participants had the opportunity to show appreciation to our state’s leaders for their continued, unwavering support of Florida’s Jewish community in the face of rising antisemitism across the country and around the world.
