Rekindle Miami Launches to Bridge Understanding

Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC), in partnership with the NAACP, has launched Rekindle Miami, bringing together young Black and Jewish leaders in their 20s and 30s to learn about each other’s histories and traditions. Over six months, the cohort will discuss topics such as Israel, antisemitism and white supremacy. During Sukkot, they gathered at the Miami Beach JCC sukkah to break bread. In January, they will join in a community service project in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Other planned activities include a tour of Miami’s “red line,” which segregated populations starting in the 1930s and a visit to Virginia Key Beach, designated in 1945 as the only beach for the Black community. Jewish sites for sessions include the Jewish Museum and Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, where the cohort will meet with a Holocaust Survivor.
