Relief and Resilience for Frontline Communities in Israel

Thousands of participants came together in Ofakim, Israel earlier this month for the first “Running for the Heroes” race through Mashiv HaRuach, a Federation-funded initiative focused on building resilience, healing and sustainable recovery in frontline communities since October 7. Its “Running for the Heroes” race included children, adults, bereaved families, residents and participants from across Israel, who partook in competitive and community races. The event proved to be a powerful celebration of unity and remembrance of loved ones who were killed on or after the October 7 terrorist attacks. Mashiv HaRuach, whose Hebrew name means “Restoring the Spirit,” also organized a field day for children with disabilities, offering much-needed relief from their daily challenges. Katerina, who watched her son joyfully participate at the event, said, “Although he can’t say it in words, you can see the happiness in his eyes.” The tailored programs offer a lifeline, helping restore a sense of normalcy amid ongoing uncertainty.
