Teen Volunteers Needed for Mitzvah Miami’s J-Serve 2014
Mitzvah Miami, the Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s volunteer program for Jewish youth, invites teenagers from across Miami-Dade County to bring smiles to families living at the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless on Sunday, April 13. The event is being coordinated by the JVC in partnership with J-Serve, an international day of service for Jewish teens.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., teen volunteers will operate a carnival to bring fun and laughter to residents of the Chapman Partnership, located at 1550 North Miami Avenue. The carnival will feature games, contests, prizes, snacks, face painting and more, organized by JVC volunteers.
During the J-Serve volunteer day, more than 10,000 Jewish teenagers worldwide will participate in projects in the spirit of tikkun olam, the Jewish notion of repairing a broken world. For more information about J-Serve, visit
Kosher lunches will be provided to the volunteers and community service hours are available. Bus transportation to the Chapman Partnership will be offered from the Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center in Kendall and the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in North Miami Beach. Buses will depart from both locations at 9:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m.
As the central clearinghouse for volunteerism in Miami’s Jewish community, the JVC works year-round to match individuals, families and groups with opportunities for hands-on involvement with a wide variety of local nonprofit organizations. Shana Lewinger Russo serves as Chair of the JVC.
