Volunteers Jump Into Action Following Surfside Tragedy
Immediately after the collapse of Champlain Towers South, Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) did what they do best: mobilized volunteers across Miami and sprang into action, ready to help in whatever way they could. From sorting and distributing the tremendous amount of donations that arrived at The Shul in Surfside to pitching in at Jewish Community Services of South Florida Kosher Food Bank, volunteers are woven into the fabric of recovery and resiliency in Miami. JVC Chair Lauren Amron said, “Our volunteers are the heart of our community. Every time I’m out with our volunteers I’m heartened and humbled to watch them in action and see how passionate they are about helping those who need it most.”
Most recently, JVC has partnered with Yedidim USA, which is operating a kosher kitchen at the Surfside site to help prepare, pack and serve meals to those who are assisting with recovery efforts. Campers at the Alper Jewish Community Center are helping, too, writing cards of thanks and encouragement, which will be hand-delivered to first responders.
