Welcome Home: Through War and Terrorism, Olim Arrive in Israel

Just one day after the recent ceasefire with Iran, 110 olim (new immigrants) from France arrived in Israel, and with the help of Federation partner The Jewish Agency for Israel, they continue to come, eager to start a new life. “In other countries, when there is war, people flee,” said Israel Immigration Minister Ofir Sofer, “but in our country, people come to join us.” In a moving ceremony in Paris just a few days after the June 24 ceasefire, the Jewish community came together to celebrate an additional 400 future olim — families, young adults and elders — who will be leaving this summer to make Israel their new home. Upon their arrival, The Jewish Agency will facilitate their acclimation by offering transitional housing in absorption centers, helping them learn Hebrew in ulpanim (intensive language schools) and secure employment. Since October 7, 2023, more than 45,000 new immigrants from around the world have arrived in Israel.
