Young Lion of Judah Program Offers Volunteer Opportunities for Bar/Bat Mitzvah Students
Jewish middle school students reaching Bar or Bat Mitzvah before August 2016 are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to the Jewish community by participating in Young Lion of Judah, a uniquely volunteer program presented by the Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) and the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
Young Lion of Judah offers a choice of community service projects that can provide 10 hours of community service credits.
Beginning Sunday, November 1 and ending Sunday, January 24, participants can spend time with Holocaust survivors living in Miami. The young volunteers will meet with their survivor partners on their own schedules and join in three group meetings at the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, a Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. This special intergenerational experience is limited to 25 students.
As an alternative, students can volunteer at local Jewish agencies, day schools, synagogues or a JVC event. Each participant must dedicate a minimum of 10 hours supporting projects, programs or activities related to the Jewish institution or organization of his or her choice.
Supporting the Jewish value of tzedakah, all Young Lion of Judah participants are make a $180 gift to the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign. They will receive a certificate of completion, along with a silver bracelet or a silver talit clip bearing the distinctive Lion of Judah emblem.
Applications for Young Lion of Judah are available by contacting JVC Director Lori Tabachnikoff at 786.866.8680 or [email protected].
