As we approach the end of our lives, or even well before, it is incumbent upon us to establish an estate plan for the distribution of our material assets.
Consider the following:
- Who is handling our financial planning and knows where all of our assets are?
- Who will be the executor of our material will and who will be drawing up that will and witnessing it?
- Who has the keys to the safety deposit box, the house, the car, etc.?
- Who knows the passwords to the computer or the smartphone?
- Who has the funeral contract and knows who to call when we are ill or when we die?
- If we can no longer make financial decisions, who will do that for us?
- Who will hold the Power of Attorney? We must choose that person when we are competent to do so.
