Taglit Birthright Summer 2014 - Day 7

We started the day in Yerucham with a tasty balance of fresh tomato, cucumber, cereal, toast and coffee. Afterwards the group headed to a nursing home to paint with a wonderful and seemingly very happy group of seniors - some spoke Spanish and Russian. After boarding the bus towards Jerusalem, Hagai, our knowledgeable and charismatic guide, began to divulge an unabridged history of the Israeli / Palestinian conflict. An interesting Q & A session ensued as we traveled and then finally arrived at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. Yad Vashem was an emotional whirlwind that seemed to be generally perceived as one of, if not, the most important stop in Israel.
Towards the end of the museum, the floor slopes upwards and light passes gloriously through the large triangular glass doorway at the end of the hall as your skin is warmed by the sun and you're greeted by an inspiring view of the Jerusalem forest.
After our tears dried we boarded the friendship shuttle captained by the lovable Habib, and traveled to the beautiful Jerusalem Gate Hotel, where we enjoyed one of the the nicest dinners we'd had yet. The entire crew was ripe with excitement to explore the city's nightlife and donned their fancy attire. More pictures and selfies were taken in front of the Hotel in that time than on the entire trip and a sense of sadness began to set in, as the Americans realized it was the last night with our new Israeli soldier friends. Gladly, it was a safe and joyous time out on the town of Jerusalem - a fitting night of camaraderie and celebration.
