Keeping The Spirit of Jewish Summer Camp Alive Through the Pandemic

Like so many organizations, Camp Szarvas, a rural Jewish summer camp in Hungary, has innovatively adapted to the pandemic. Run by Federation overseas partner, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Camp Szarvas, which typically brings together Jewish young adults throughout Europe, is holding online events for campers and unit heads to keep the spirit of camp alive and the connections vibrant. As public health guidelines allow, JDC is also holding local camps in smaller settings in Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The goal is to strengthen Jewish life in remote areas and offer the magic of Jewish summer camp to everyone. To learn more about Federation’s work overseas, click here.
