Jewish Federations of North America Release a Jewish Students’ Bill of Rights
“No child should have to choose between their education and their Jewish identity,” asserted Eric Fingerhut, President and CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America, which released a Jewish Students’ Bill of Rights last week. Addressing the increase of antisemitism in K-12 schools, the document, presented in partnership with other Jewish advocacy organizations, outlines six standards to ensure that every Jewish child can attend school without fear of harassment, bias or shame. Included is a call to equip school staff with the tools to identify antisemitism and establish a transparent process for responding to incidents; ensure Jewish educational content is accurate and contested issues are taught in a balanced manner and protect Jewish students' rights to express their identity without bullying or harrassment.
