Ukrainian Families Enjoy Federation-Funded Jewish Summer Camp
While life in Ukraine continues to be challenging for so many, Jewish families from Kyiv enjoyed a much-needed respite this summer at a Federation-supported camp. Nearly 100 adults and children spent five days at the family-oriented JCC Halom camp in western Ukraine, which combined unique Jewish experiences with classic camp activities. Participants explored “retro Israel,” learned about Jewish cinema and music, prepared for Shabbat and shared in tie-dye, origami and other art projects. Yurii, one of the participants, shared his appreciation of Halom in a poem: “Halom is more than a camp and a summer… It is people who know how to make the world brighter…” Click here to watch a video about the Ukrainian experience, which is one of many Federation-supported summer camp opportunities for Jewish adults and children across Eastern Europe.
