To help foster a safe and secure Jewish community environment in Miami-Dade County, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has hired a Community Security Director. Brenda Moxley is a retired Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Miami Division, FBI.

Federation elected Amy N. Dean to serve as Chair of its Board of Directors, and Jeffrey Scheck to serve as Vice Chair and General Campaign Chair, effective July 1, 2016. Federation also selected a full slate of 2016-17 Officers and Board of Directors Members during its recent Annual Meeting, and honored outgoing Board Chair Robert G. Berrin.

Federation and its overseas partners have provided more than 8,000 Jews in the Ukraine with food, medicine, medical care, clothing, housing subsidies, post-trauma care, and Jewish community connections since armed conflict erupted in the region over the past two years. Nearly 10,000 people in the region have died, and inflation and unemployment have skyrocketed, leaving those once independent now struggling to cope.

On Wednesday, June 8, Israeli police reported a terrorist attack by at least two individuals using automatic weapons at the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv’s Commercial District. Four people were killed and at least six others were wounded before the gunmen were neutralized and arrested. An accomplice was later arrested, as well.
