Mitzvah Miami: Youth and Teen Volunteer Activities

Mitzvah Miami of the Jewish Volunteer Center logo

Mitzvah Miami is the group of youth and teen volunteer projects, activities and programs of the Jewish Volunteer Center of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Through Mitzvah Miami, kids and teens can get involved in tikkun olam—making the world a better place—starting just before their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, all the way through high school. For more information, contact the Jewish Volunteer Center at [email protected] or 786.866.8680. Read below for all of the Mitzvah Miami programs.

J-Serve

J-Serve, our annual volunteer day for youth and teens, gives young adults the opportunity to participate in meaningful projects in our community. In partnership with BBYO and Mitzvah Miami, teens have planted an organic garden and helped clean up the graves in the Jewish section of a Miami cemetery.

J-STAR

J-STAR, or Jewish Students Taking an Active Role, joins kids and teens in 8th, 9th and 10th grades. Get together with your friends and classmates for group community service projects in and around Miami.

J-Reporters

J-Reporters is an initiative for high school and college students where volunteers have the opportunity to report for our Jewish Community. Students submit articles, photographs and video footage of community events that take place throughout Miami – Dade County to The Community Post.

Community Connections

In partnership with Miami Jewish Health Systems (MJHS), youth and teens can visit MJHS on the first Thursday of each month from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Volunteers meet at Miami Jewish Health Systems in the May Visitor Center and are greeted by Susan Willenbourg, Director of Volunteers.

Young Lion of Judah

The Young Lion of Judah program is a unique program coordinated by the Jewish Volunteer Center of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation for students who are seeking to put more mitzvah in their Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

Participants earn community service hours while helping others in Miami. And upon completion of the program, they also receive special thank-you gifts and a party in their honor.

Summer of Service

Make your summer meaningful with the Federation through a Summer of Service. Business offices, hospitals, summer camps, schools and other social-service agencies are looking for teen volunteers to help them out during the summer months. All of the volunteer opportunities are available on a regular basis during the week and or on Sundays. You can also log some community service hours with all of these activities.
