Why a Woman's Gift?

“I would like to think that someday, when our dreams have been fulfilled, they will say that it was women giving of their ideas and resources that made the difference.”
-Golda Meir

Today, the women of Miami’s Jewish community are making a difference in many ways. In fact, one-third of the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign is raised by women.

So whether your spouse or partner individually supports the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign or you make a gift together as a family, there are many important reasons why you should consider a contribution through Women’s Philanthropy in your own name.

  • Tzedakah is a mitzvah, a personal obligation. Just as no one can perform a mitzvah on behalf of another, determining your share in meeting the needs of the global Jewish community is an important individual decision.
  • A separate donation gives you your own identity, distinct and independent from your spouse, partner or family. This is consistent not only with societal ideals, but also with the Jewish view that each human being is of infinite value.
  • A donation in your own name establishes you as a full investor in your community.
  • The obligation to give tzedakah continues throughout your life, without regard to marital status.
  • Money is influence; it gives you a voice and a place at the table. By giving a meaningful gift in your own name, you have more decision-making credibility.
  • Each gift counts as another "vote" for the well-being of our Jewish community.

The women who support the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign are inspired by and act on the Jewish traditions of tzedakah and tikkun olam – social justice and repairing the world. By participating, you, too, have the opportunity to affirm your Jewish identity and spirituality, to take a stand on issues that affect our community, and to inspire other Jewish women by example.
