Resources for Jewish College Students at Hillel at FIU and University of Miami Hillel

In recognition of the great need of mental health and wellness support for Jewish college students presently, BeWell Miami is thrilled to be helping support the Hillel Therapist and Wellness Professional position. This position is providing therapy services and wellness programming on site at both Hillels in order to address the mental health and wellness needs of Jewish students at both universities.
Hillel at FIU and University of Miami Hillel Therapist and Wellness Professional: Alex Shuman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She was raised in Miami, Florida, and attended Hillel Community Day School, along with other Jewish day schools growing up. After graduating high school, Alex attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, but eventually made her way back to sunny Miami, where she earned her master’s degree in social work from Barry University. Alex then moved with her family to windy Chicago and has spent the last five years there—but Miami keeps calling her back. Now that she’s returned, she’s excited for this next chapter. Alex brings five years of experience as a mental health therapist and has been involved in the Jewish community for more than a decade. She believes therapy should be a space where people feel safe, comfortable, and never judged. She’s looking forward to working with the University of Miami Hillel and Hillel at FIU communities, and helping to foster a strong sense of identity and connection.
