Director of Community Security

As an employee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation (GMJF) the Director of Community Security will provide direction and maintain oversight for the development, organization, and monitoring of the Miami-Dade Jewish community’s security operations and programs, including emergency plans, and provides guidance and strategic direction to ensure the safety and security of all member institutions of the community, all guests and visitors accessing community services, events and programs, and all community capital assets.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Develop and implement a strategic approach to community security with the key objective to build confidence and empower the community to ensure the safety of its organizations, members and employees.
  • Provide customized support, consultation and security training to Jewish institutions including synagogues, Jewish day schools, Jewish Community Center, Jewish social service and other Jewish organizations.
  • Conduct organizational site visits and provide assessments including immediate low/no-cost recommendations as well as more detailed target hardening strategies.
  • Maintain a system of community-wide collaboration, coordination and communication including regular security updates and resource sharing as well as community-wide protocols for communication
  • Develop strong and effective partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency management agencies, and assist with plans and investigations of threats.
  • Serve as a liaison between GMJF and Anti-Defamation League, Secure Community Network, Community Security Services and other organizations active in Jewish security concerns.
  • Develop and manage security policies, procedures, recommendations and standards to ensure compliance with applicable security laws, regulations and privacy legislation as appropriate.
  • Identify and implement emergency communications system to ensure timely notifications to appropriate organizations of security incidents.
  • Recommend budget-sensitive changes to programs and procedures at autonomous GMJF partner agencies, as needed, in order to provide protection of all users, visitors, and community assets.
  • Provide consulting support and function as project leader of multidisciplinary teams to develop, communicate, implement and monitor solutions and processes regarding appropriate improvements and enhancements to security measures in place at Jewish community facilities.
  • Monitor intelligence related to terrorism and public safety. Analyze and disseminate information from local, national, international and Israeli news and media, as well as intelligence network communication locally and abroad.
  • Consult with and/or coordinate security for major events in the community.
  • Attend training and train community on best practices in cyber security protocols to mitigate the threat.
  • Serve as lead staff for the Community Security Committee to ensure strategic alignment, coordination and cooperation among Jewish community organizations.
  • Assist the Jewish Community Relations Council with the Department of Homeland Security Non-profit Security Grant program, providing guidance for applications and administration of the grants.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as may be assigned by superiors, to include assisting with core responsibilities of the Federation.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and a minimum 10 years law enforcement, corporate, government or related homeland security experience. Dynamic, results-oriented individual, with highest degree of personal integrity and able to pass a background check. Success in problem solving and developing working relationships with security professionals and colleagues. Broad-based knowledge of security protocols, threat investigations, physical security and emergency management. Ability to develop organizational plans, to evaluate personnel and assignments and provide direction. Skilled in communicating verbally and in writing. Ability to work under stressful situations and make decisions in difficult matters with tact and courtesy. Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office suite. Possess ability to develop strong relationships with the community. Knowledge of Judaism and sensitive to the Jewish community history, holidays and traditions. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.

The salary range is $125,000-$150,000 depending upon experience.

The position reports to the Chief Planning Officer.
