Description

Helen Fremont was raised Roman Catholic and didn’t discover that her parents were Jewish Holocaust Survivors until well into adulthood. The Escape Artist is a powerful memoir about family secrets, discovery and embracing truth. It is a remarkable tale of survival, as vivid as fiction but reveals the truth about parents, who, coping with unimaginable trauma, hid their family origins.

Helen Fremont is an award-winning author and essayist. She wrote the critically-acclaimed, national best-selling book, After Long Silence. Her latest book, The Escape Artist, was selected as an “Editor’s Choice” new book by The New York Times in 2020.

Moderator Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff is the Holocaust Education Specialist for Miami Dade County Public Schools.
