Event Details

Description

Co-written by Yaakov Katz and Amir Bohbot, a sharp investigation into Israel’s intelligence failures ahead of Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023 attack, While Israel Slept compares the surprise to Pearl Harbor, not 9/11—an outcome of ignored warnings and false assumptions. They argue the IDF misread clear signals, relied too heavily on the “iron wall” with Gaza, and suffered from poor inter-agency communication. They also suggest internal political strife weakened Israel’s defenses. Controversially, they claim Israel’s military response aimed to avoid civilian casualties. The book ends with policy recommendations and is a significant, if debatable, addition to Middle East analysis.
