Description

A Shortage of Grandparents: A Memoir of Loss and Discovery traces one woman’s emotional journey to uncover her Jewish family’s hidden past. For over 70 years, fragile letters written by Sophie and Berthold Meier—grandparents lost in the Holocaust—remained unread. With the help of Dr. Martin Ruch, the author translates their words and uncovers the story of her father, Arthur, whose life was marked by trauma. From discovering her grandmother’s grave in France to standing before Stolpersteine in Germany, she transforms silence into remembrance. This memoir is a powerful tribute to resilience, memory, and the enduring impact of history.
