Event Details
Description
Join us on Zoom to mark Sigd with Roni Akale, Director-General of the Ethiopian National Project in Israel, a beneficiary of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. In 1983, at age 20, he walked 800 kilometers across Ethiopia, waited in Sudan, and finally reached Jerusalem. He’ll share that journey, along with the work ENP does today to support Ethiopian-Israeli youth and families. We’ll also learn about Sigd, the Ethiopian Jewish holiday observed 50 days after Yom Kippur, when the community gathers to renew its covenant with God and pray for a return to Jerusalem. All are welcome, whether Sigd is new to you or part of your own tradition.
