Description

All Americans have a stake in effective response to violent bigotry. These crimes demand priority attention because of their special impact. Hate crimes intimidate the victim and members of the victim's community, leaving them feeling isolated, vulnerable, and unprotected by the law. Failure to address this unique type of crime could cause an isolated incident to explode into widespread community tension.

Topics covered will include an overview of hate crimes laws, Florida’s hate crimes law, the federal Hate Crimes Prevention Act, constitutionality of federal and state hate crimes laws, case studies, hate crimes statistics, key features of hate crimes, hate crimes indicators, and offender typology. Participants will receive two hours of general CLE credits for attending the course.

The course is accredited for two hours of CLE credits, as well as certifications in Criminal Appellate Law, Criminal Trial Law, Juvenile Law, State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice.
