Description

*The Shabbos Queen* is a queer, artistic, and accessible translation of Friday night Shabbat into an immersive ritual extravaganza and dinner-party. With inspirations ranging from Barbara Streisand to Sade to Kabbalah, *The Shabbos Queen* creates a sweet and kind-of sexy stop from the fast-paced world, providing a portal into what Abraham Joshua Heshel calls "The Palace in Time." It's an everybody-welcome evening for unwinding, dreaming and togetherness, a taste of the paradise to come. We welcome you into an especially potent edition: a celebration of Passover, of queer liberation.

This program is presented in partnership with Hillel at FIU, the Office of Social Justice and Inclusion LGBTQA Initiatives, the Program in the Study of Spirituality, and the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs.

Stuart B Meyers is a dance-theatre artist and ritualist. Inspired by the overlap in his queer and Jewish identities, he creates shapeshifting, time-defying, and nostalgic works which crack open perspectives and awaken audiences to their bodies and spirits. Stuart's worked alongside Robert Wilson, Colette Sadler, Nick Cave, Ann Liv Young & Tino Sehgal. Currently, he’s internationally touring “*The Shabbos Queen*, a Queer, DIY & Dreamy Shabbat Dinner Delight & Extravaganza!” (Berlin, Brooklyn, Tel Aviv, Krakow, Amsterdam & Boston (online) and teaching folks how to love themselves, and then somebody else as YENTA. Stuart’s received funding from the Berlin Cultural Senate, the BK Arts Council, and the NEA, and is a 2019-2021 NYLA Fresh Tracks Artist & CPR AIR, 2018 danceWeb Scholar, and reads both Tarot & Dreams through a Kabbalistic lineage (School of Images).
