Job Description Summary

The Facilities & Security Managerplays a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and operational excellence of the Holocaust Memorial and Education Center’s facilities. Reporting to the CEO, this position oversees all aspects of building operations, maintenance, security coordination, safety protocols, vendor management, and event support.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a sensitive, mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organized, and committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for Holocaust Survivors, visitors, staff, and community members.

Facilities Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Holocaust Memorial and Education Center facilities and adjacent grounds.
  • Manage and evaluate all maintenance, repair, and service vendors to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and address deficiencies promptly.
  • Ensure all interior and exterior spaces are safe, clean, and visitor-ready at all times.
  • Oversee purchasing of supplies, equipment, and event-related materials.

Security & Safety Oversight

  • Serve as the primary site-level security lead for the Memorial and Education Center.
  • Coordinate closely with the Office of Community Security, contracted security, and law enforcement partners, to ensure a comprehensive and proactive security posture.
  • Oversee implementation of all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and threat mitigation measures.
  • Monitor security systems and collaborate with contracted security personnel onsite.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety codes, emergency plans, and security best practices for high-risk Jewish communal institutions.
  • Participate in security assessments, drills, and staff training.

Staff Oversight

Supervise staff responsible for:

  • Security
  • Building maintenance and general custodial needs
  • Event setup, breakdown, and support
  • Deliveries, pickups, and off-site event support

Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, tenants, and partners regarding facilities and security matters.
  • Work closely with the Federation’s Senior Facilities Manager and Federation Security Office on building-wide initiatives, planning, and incident response.
  • Provide timely communication to leadership regarding urgent repairs, security concerns, and operational needs.

On-Call Responsibilities

  • Remain available for facilities and security-related emergencies, including evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain a clear backup structure to ensure uninterrupted coverage.

Projects & Compliance

  • Support federal and state security grant processes, including construction bids, project execution, and documentation.
  • Work with municipal partners on required inspections, certifications, and renewals.
  • Maintain documentation for compliance with safety, fire, and emergency preparedness standards.

Support to Other Sites

  • Ensure off-site events, weekend, evening, and special-event coverage plans are in place.

Other Responsibilities

  • Oversee storage areas.
  • Assist with major annual events and commemorations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Formal education in a related field is preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is acceptable
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities management, security coordination, or related field; experience in a nonprofit, school, cultural center, or commercial property preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of facility and building management practices.
  • Understanding of physical security systems and security best practices.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-sensitivity environment.
  • Experience running RFP processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, culture, or security needs is a plus.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends and participate in an on-call rotation.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range is $70,000 – $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.

This position is not sedentary and requires regular walking, standing, and moving throughout the building and grounds. The Facilities Manager must be able to inspect facilities, access various areas of the building, and oversee or assist with physical setup activities. The role occasionally requires lifting or carrying items up to 25 pounds, such as event materials or supplies. Responding to facility emergencies may involve climbing stairs, entering mechanical areas, or moving quickly to resolve urgent issues. The position also requires the ability to work on-site for extended periods and comfortably navigate both indoor and outdoor environments.
