The Most Important Conversation We’re Not Having

How we die is part of our legacy to our loved ones and our communities. Most Americans express the hope that as they near the end of their lives, they will not be a burden for their families and friends. Yet, if we avoid having values-centered conversations about the kind of care we want — or don’t want — at the end of life, we risk leaving family members in the dark. Not talking about our unique wishes and hopes could result in strife at the bedside and cause lasting damage in relationships between the people we love the most.

The Conversation Project’s goal is to have everyone’s wishes for care through the end of life expressed and respected. We will offer an engaging introduction to The Conversation Project’s respected Conversation Starter Kit. This is a guide to having the crucial, intimate and relationship-strengthening conversations that will help preserve your autonomy and wishes in the event that you or your loved ones are unable to speak for yourselves. Using quiet re ection, brief writing exercises and small and large group sharing, this interactive workshop will support and motivate you to have essential personal and professional conversations about an experience that touches us all.
