A Statement on the Supreme Court Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage From the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation
June 26, 2015
In response to today’s Supreme Court Same-Sex Marriage ruling, the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation released the following statement:
Today’s landmark Supreme Court ruling declaring that same-sex couples may exercise the fundamental right to marry in all states is a historic step toward the pursuit of equality for all in our country.
In the text of the 5-4 decision, Justice Kennedy stated, “Their [the petitioners] hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”
The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is proud of our enduring commitment to all human rights and our previous positions with respect to this issue. We applaud today’s decision and the democratic process through which it was addressed.
