Join Us to Honor Maxine and Kenneth Schwartz at
The Main Event, February 20

Kenny and Maxine Schwartz will receive Federation's 2014 Friend of Israel Humanitarian Award for their longtime commitment to the Jewish community.

On Thursday, February 20, more than 1,200 people will pay tribute to Maxine and Kenny Schwartz for their more than 40 years of service to Miami’s Jewish community at the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Main Event, chaired by Michelle and Bob Diener.

The Schwartzes will receive Federation’s Friend of Israel Humanitarian Award and Norman Braman will present it to them on behalf of Federation for their steadfast and exemplary leadership and commitment to the Federation, to Israel and to the Jewish people.

The Main Event also will feature a keynote address by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright (1997-2001).

Maxine and Kenny Schwartz led Miami’s first mega missions to Israel in the 1990s, enabling thousands of participants to enjoy a unique perspective of Israel and see firsthand many of the critical programs and services that are funded through the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign. Through the years, they have continued to play major roles in more than 30 local and national Israel missions – including the historic 2012 Mega Mission, the largest Jewish Federation mission to Israel in more than a decade. In addition, whenever Israel has been in crisis, the Schwartzes have been instrumental in Miami’s response, organizing Israel emergency fund campaigns and solidarity missions.

Maxine is a Life Member of Federation’s Board of Directors, and she was the first woman to serve as Federation’s General Campaign Chair. As Director of Development and Outreach at the University of Miami’s Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies, she inspires the next generation by bringing them face-to-face with Middle East leaders, innovators and scholars.

Kenny served on Federation’s Board of Directors for many years, leading numerous committees and events, and has also been a UJA National Vice Chair, as well as President of Temple Sinai North Dade.

The Main Event will begin with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner, at the Hilton Miami Downtown, 1601 Biscayne Boulevard.

Non-tax-deductible couvert for the event is $108 per person, or $54 for those age 30 and younger. A minimum gift of $1,000 per person to the 2014 Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign is suggested; a minimum gift of $500 is suggested for those age 30 and younger.

Dietary laws will be observed. Valet and self-parking are available. For more information, call 786.866.8438.
