Federation to Host Pacesetter Event Thursday, December 15
As its name implies, the Pacesetter Event is one of the most important events of the year for the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, setting the pace for the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign by raising millions of dollars to support vital social services in Miami, in Israel and around the world.
On Thursday, December 15, hundreds of Miami’s most enthusiastic philanthropists will gather in solidarity at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach to address major topics of concern to the Jewish people and pledge support for the most vulnerable.
“Amidst this difficult economy, one in eight people in Miami’s Jewish community still depends on some form of financial assistance from Federation and our local partner agencies,” said Federation General Campaign Chair Brian L. Bilzin. “Those attending the Pacesetter Event are generous individuals who make a huge difference in our community through the support of the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign.”
Headlining the Pacesetter Event will be keynote speaker Dr. Charles Krauthammer. Named by The Financial Times as “the most influential commentator in America,” Krauthammer has been honored from every part of the political spectrum for his bold, lucid and original writing. Since 1985, he has written a syndicated column for The Washington Post for which he won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary. It is published weekly in more than 275 newspapers worldwide.
Krauthammer is a contributing editor to The Weekly Standard and The New Republic, and a weekly panelist on Inside Washington. He is also a contributor to FOX News, appearing nightly on FOX’s evening news program, Special Report with Bret Baier.
A licensed medical doctor, Krauthammer served on the President’s Council on Bioethics from 2001 to 2006. He is president of The Krauthammer Foundation and chairman of Pro Musica Hebraica, an organization dedicated to the recovery and performance of lost classical Jewish music. He is also a member of the Chess Journalists of America.
The Pacesetter Event is being co-chaired by Sari and Arthur Agatston and Sara and Joseph Kavana.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a kosher dinner.
Couvert for the Pacesetter Event is $150 per person (not tax-deductible), and includes valet parking. A $10,000 suggested gift per invited couple to the 2012 Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign or membership in the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Star of David or Heritage Societies is requested.
The Star of David Society is a national honor society established by The Jewish Federations of North America to recognize those who create Permanent Annual Campaign Endowments of $200,000 or more, or any permanent endowment of $500,000 or more. The Heritage Society recognizes those members of Miami’s Jewish community who have created a permanent endowment of $100,000 or more through The Foundation, including members of the Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE) Society. Star of David Society members are also members of the Heritage Society.
