Your Dollars at Work: Assisting and Empowering Israeli Women

For 10 years, the Women’s Amutot Initiative of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has been allocating funds to nonprofit organizations (amutot) in Israel that focus on the needs and welfare of women and girls. These organizations work to empower women and improve Israeli society through efforts to create social, economic, religious and political equality. Many of the women served by these organizations are marginalized and/or are at a disadvantage when dealing with divorce, employment rights and business opportunities.

As an integral part of Federation’s Israel and Overseas Department, the Women's Amutot Initiative Committee provides a forum for its members to gain a better understanding about the issues affecting women in Israel, have a say in how funding decisions are made in a particular area, be engaged in the work of Federation, and have the opportunity to help effect social change in Israel. This has been particularly meaningful at a time when many news accounts are putting Israel under scrutiny with regard to the place of women in Israel’s public arena.

To learn more about the Women’s Amutot Initiative and other Federation-funded programs helping people in Israel and worldwide, please contact Dahlia Bendavid, Israel and Overseas Department Director at [email protected] or 786.866.8445.
