Amy N. Dean, Jeffrey Scheck Elected to Lead Greater Miami Jewish Federation

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation elected Amy N. Dean to serve as Chair of its Board of Directors, and Jeffrey Scheck to serve as Vice Chair and General Campaign Chair, effective July 1, 2016.

Federation also selected a full slate of 2016-17 Officers and Board of Directors Members during its recent Annual Meeting, and honored outgoing Board Chair Robert G. Berrin. Berrin served as Chair of the Board of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation from 2014-2016, and previously served as Federation’s Vice Chair and General Campaign Chair of the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign from 2012-2014.

Dean is President of Amy N. Dean, P.A., a legal mediation and dispute resolution practice. Admitted to the Florida Bar and New York Bar, she previously served as a Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge from 1991 to 2004. Before being elected to the bench, Dean was an attorney with the law firms of Kluger, Peretz, Kaplan & Berlin, and Broad & Cassel. She began her legal career in 1976 as a Miami-Dade Assistant County Attorney.

Dean served the Greater Miami Jewish Federation during the past two years as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and General Campaign Chair. She previously chaired the Federation’s Major Gifts Committee, Jewish Community Relations Council, Women’s Philanthropy Campaign and Local Agencies Allocations Committee.

Dean served a two-year term as Chair of the United Jewish Appeal National Women’s Cabinet. She is a past Chair of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and remains actively involved in vital Jewish organizations, including AIPAC, and The Jewish Federations of North America. She and her family are members of Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus.

A graduate of Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Dean received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law. She was born in New York City and raised in Miami.

Residents of Aventura, Dean and her husband, Alan Kluger, have two children and two grandchildren.

Jeffrey Scheck is Vice President of Scheck Group, a family investment company. A non-practicing Certified Public Accountant, he sits on the boards of Apollo Bank, New Horizons of South Florida and Florida Vocational Institute.

Scheck previously served on the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Executive Board, Administrative Committee, Audit Committee and Financial Management Committee. In 2014, he became Chair of The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and in 2015, Chair of Major Gifts.

A past President of the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, Scheck is a past Trustee of Scheck Hillel Community School, a school founded by his parents, Raquel and Michael Scheck. He is also Vice Chair and a Board of Trustee member of Aventura Hospital.

Scheck graduated from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. He is a past member of The Jewish Federations of North America’s Young Leadership Cabinet. He is also active in the Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus synagogue.

Scheck has traveled on many Federation-sponsored missions, including three missions to Israel, a mission to Cuba, a mission to Belarus and Lithuania, and the March of the Living trip to Poland and Israel. In 2013, he became a graduate of the prestigious three-year Wexner Heritage Program.

Born and raised in Miami, Scheck lives in Aventura with his wife, Adrienne, and their four children.
