Federation Program Helping Ethiopian Israelis Train for High-Tech Careers

Federation is helping bridge the gap of Ethiopian Israelis employed in Israel’s tech sector by funding Tech-Career, a comprehensive training program established in 2002 by and for Ethiopian Israelis. So far, Tech-Career has enabled more than 1,300 young adults to attain and advance in promising careers in more than 62 sought-after specialties, including communications, network security, programming and automation. DevNet and Cybersecurity Training Program, the newest Federation-funded initiatives, provide nine months of professional training, job placement, one-on-one English tutoring, internships, mentoring and more. Plus, Tech-Career provides monthly stipends, housing and other services that help students succeed. Eighty-two percent of graduates find jobs through the program, breaking the cycle of low-wage employment and poverty, while also advancing diversity in the Israeli workplace and serving as role models for new olim. During a recent Israel Study Trip, Federation leaders met with several Tech-Career students and heard their inspiring success stories.
